Hi my name is Rachel,
I am new to this forum and only recently discovered TMJ syndrome, and I seem to be suffering from alot, if not all the symptoms. I would just like some advice before i go about doing anything about it!
I am currently growing wisdom teeth, my bottom right one has been growing for about 2 years now and has caused me a great deal of pain, now only yesterday i realised my gum on my left hand side has been pierced by my left wisdom tooth, so i am experiencing alot of pain now with both of them. I was due to have all 4 removed last year but decided to wait til my final 2 wisdom teeth had finished growing...because i'm afraid of the operation lol, but do you think removing the wisdom teeth could make my symptoms better, maybe possibley eliminating excess pressure on my jaw joint from overcrowding or something...Because there definitely isn't enough room for all my teeth in my mouth, and my Xray showed my wisdom teeth growing at weird angles so they grow too close and into my molars.
I also have had jaw problems since i was about 14(I am 20 now), locking, dislocating, constant clicking and popping, etc.
I went to a dentist last year, and he said that my jaws arent alligned so when i open my mouth and go to close them again, they kind of move all around the place before finding a final position, and even when my mouth is closed i move my jaws around alot. He explained two options he usually gives to people with jaw problems, and how most people either have one of two cases, weak muscles or too strong muscles/ligaments around the jaw joint(i think that is what he said, i may be wrong, it was a long time ago!) but since i had both cases, if he preformed a certain procedure on me, it would make the other case worse, visa versa. Just wondering have anyone experienced anything similar to this?
Also, my main concern is I have a strange problem with my ears. My ears get very sore, especially when i wear glasses or hats and give me terrible headaches. It feels like there is a great deal of pressure on them, and i have to kind of push them into my head, or pull them outwards and around to relieve the pain somewhat, which doesnt really help! Also, they ALWAYS crack, but not like the clicking or cracking alot of people have while swallowing. My sensation is like the cartilage cracking, it happens whenever i touch my ears, or when i pull them, even gently. It seems to come from behind my ear, I can even feel the cracking with my fingers as i touch them, its very strange and very irritating and gives me constant headaches. Just wondering if it could be broken cartilage or dislocated ears(if u can even get that!) and if anyone else suffers from this?
Also, I was in a mild car accident over christmas '09, and ever since then have had worse headaches and neck pain than usual, with the back of my neck cracking whenever i move it, so could this have made my possible TMJ worse, and would a chiropractor help?
Who would i go about seeing if i did want to inquire about TMJ?
I would really appreciate feedback as these problems have been bothering me for years now, Im extremely happy i found out about TMJ and this forum which seems to offer alot of support!
Thanks,
Rachel
