Trioptal (Oxcarbazepine) is a antiepileptic used to treat epilepsy, is classified as a category C medication.
Studies in animals have revealed teratogenic (neurological defects) or embryocidal effects.
Usually such medications are prescribed in pregnant women, only when the benefits outweigh the risks to the mother or the fetus. But in general it is best avoided during pregnancy.
Keeping this in mind, if you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant you should immediately talk to your OBGYN as well as your neurologist and seek his opinion about the medication.
A change in the medication to a much safer medication would be helpful.
I hope this helps.
