Q: Why is this name NOT ok?

Ok, so my husband actually suggested a name that I liked- Jude Lawson Davis- problem is that everyone says it sounds like the actor, Jude Law. Why is it that certain names are off limits because they sound like someone else? I hate to think that I am gonna pass on a name I love because it may remind someone of a celebrity. Not like it's Elvis!! What would you do?

Your kid, your choice! Youre the one who has to live with it, and hear it everyday, not them. And it's not as if your naming the child after a uber villian like Hitler or BinLaden....so I think you should tell them "thank you, I'm aware it sounds a little familiar, but I like it" Perhaps they are just trying to let you know so if you didn't want a "famous" name you could change it.

Odds are by the time your kid is of school age Jude Law will have stopped making films. I don't see the big to-do about naming a kid after a lesser-known actor or acress. One of my friends in Catholic School was Anabella Lugosi Platt. It wasn't until I was much older that I understood her name was a tribute to the horror classic's actor.

Keep Jude and get rid of Lawson. It's a silly name anyway.

Why, yes. If she asks a question, she should expect to be answered truthfully, not given validation where it shouldn't be given.
