I wake up every morning with pain in my neck and shoulders. I notice that I have my shoulder and neck muscles engaged the entire time I'm asleep. The times I do notice I'm doing it, I try to let my shoulders down and relax them but when I wake up I am back to shoulder shrugging. I don't know how to prevent it.
I have been doing it for years and find that I am doing it during the day too. It causes very tight muscles and is hard to relax when I realize that I am doing it. Two years ago I woke up with horrible pain in my neck and could not move. Had to be on muscle relaxers and off work for two weeks to heal the muscles. I am so afraid it will happen again.
