Q: Why are my calves covered in bruises?

I have been physically active for over 4 months and never had this problem before... Earlier this week I went on a 9 mile bike ride (which is nothing compared to the amount of exercise I do in the gym) and after I got back I had several bruises on each of my calves. I didn't get in an accident or anything, in fact I don't remember banging my legs at all. I know everyone has random bruises appear every once in a while but there are quite a few of them so I was a little concerned. So I thought maybe I'd strained my muscles or something... could that cause bruising? If so should I be worried? I don't have insurance, or money, or a doctor for that matter so getting a medical opinion is out of the question at this time, which is the reason I don't want to persist in this if it's damaging my muscles too badly.

My mother was having those same problems, when she went to the doctor they ran some tests and it ended up being her thyroid. Also lack of iron can cause bruises. I am actually iron deficient and have to take iron supplements.
