I'm a fit 32 year old woman and over the past three years I have have 9 PEs. The first was a massive one in July of 2009 that should have killed me and since then I have had an IVC filter and I am also on 15mg of coumadin daily. I have had every test that I knew of to find what the cause could be and have come up empty. I was just hospitalized last month with three small clots in my right lung...what can I do? I grew up watching my dad take coumadin so I have always been aware of the dietary restrictions. One week my INR will be 2.7 and the next 1.2: with no change that I notice. Please help me ask the right questions or point me in the right direction. I am on 100mg of lovenox twice a day again on top of my pills, it seems like so much to be pumping into my body at this age.

Why did (or does) your dad take coumadin? Did he ever know what caused his problem? It seems more likely to be something genetic, in my unprofesional opinion. Bit of a coincidence that your dad apparently has clotting problems, and now you do too. I assume the doctors checked that out? Did they do genetics tests?

Also, if it was something like leukemia, I'd have thought you would have already seen some abnormal blood test results by now, since you've had so many tests already.

Maybe it's time to change doctors, you're obviously not getting anywhere with this one.
