Over a few days in August '07 - and after a really stressful day - a numbness on the outer layer of my skin spread from my feet to my neck. I promptly went to my MD, then to an internal medicine doctor, then to 2 neurologists. Every test in the book has been run: MRIs, spinal tap, mega blood work, but all has come back normal except for a nerve conduction study. In August my peripheral nerves were ok, but in December they showed worsening. Doctors suspected Guillain Barre', though this is not the natural course of that disease.
I've charted my symptoms/progression, and have found the numbness almost always worsens right after a very stressful situation (this past weekend it was flying). I feel that somehow my fight/flight response is causing this, but what kind of tests could be run to prove it? I'm 32 and am in good shape, but have hypertension (have had an echocardiagram recently & normal), and I've always been an anxious person. I'm working with a therapist now, but I'm scared that this numbness just gets worse & worse with every stressful situation I experience.
Any help or advice is GREATLY appreciated.
