Q: White spots in the genital area
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 11th, 2009
I recently looked at my vagina and anal area and I seen white spot/patches in both those areas, not bumps, they are circular. I have no pain or itching down there, I am very worried, what could this be?

It is hard to say what the white spot/patches in the vaginal and anal area are without seeing them. However, white spots might be related to small quantities (perhaps drops) of pus collected in the vicinity of the skin glands. The glands and the skin itself might be filled with pus because of a bacterial infection transmitted either via direct skin contact (which is more common) or indirectly via objects. Pain and redness might be present in more advanced inflammations.

You might want to visit a dermatologist or a gynecologist for a physical examination. If skin infection is confirmed, antibiotics are highly likely to be recommended. Meanwhile, you might want to take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory cream to try to reduce the inflammation.
