Q: White matter lesions MS

I had an MRI due to recurring headaches and because at the time I had no sense of smell in one nostril. That later returned. The MRI showed white matter lesions and the neuro suggested the possibility of MS. I am 49. He has done some blood tests to exclude some other possibilities. He doesn't think we should do a lumbar puncture unless i have more symptoms. So far all i have had are about 3 episodes of dizziness, several years apart. the first one lasted a week and was dx'd as vertigo. The second and third only for a few hours. The third one was recent and i also found it difficult to talk. i could physically talk but had to think hard about what i was going to say and talk slowly (difficult for me, lol). I have had shoulder pain but can put that down to an old injury and overuse. I've had a few other minor things, like for a while restless legs at night, but that stopped. I get very tired sometimes. My memory and intelligence are also definitely not what they were but once again that could be just coming up to menopause.
What do you think? Anyone else had a MS dx without a lot of symptoms? Should I get the lumbar puncture?

Thanks

You don't need to have many symptoms to be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. At the beginning of the disease symptoms are usually less manifested, but later, they become more severe.

White matter lesions detected on MRI image is a strong evidence that supports the diagnosis MS. But you also need spinal tap (lumbar puncture) and evoked potentials test to confirm the diagnosis.

You can consult a neurologist about this problem.

MS
Dr. Nikola, I just received my MRI results. There are "mutliple high intensity white matter lesions" detected in my brain and my doctor says this could indicate MS. I will be seeing a nuerologist soon. What do you think??? Thanks so much. Julie
