Q: White bump on tongue
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 28th, 2009
I have a bump on the side of my tongue. It has been there for about 5 days now. It does not hurt but it is just annoying and is not going away. It is white around the edge and about the size of a pea. What could it possibly be? Should I get it looked at?

There are a number of different causes for nodules of the tongue. In most cases, these turn out to be benign. However, rarely, such growths can be caused by cancer.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a specific diagnosis over the internet. Please see your primary physician. If he/she is concerned, then you can be referred to an ENT (Head & Neck) specialist for further evaluation.
