Q: Whipple procedure information
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 22nd, 2009
How long would you recommend waiting to get pregnant after having had the Whipple procedure?

How many CT scans do you recommend if the three-month post-op CT is normal?

Pancreatic Cancer Answer A6427
After Whipple surgery, the remaining pancreas might not produce insulin adequately. Thus, the glucose level in the blood during pregnancy should be monitored closely and regulated if needed.

However, once the affected tissue is healed after a Whipple procedure, it can sustain the pressure from the enlarged uterus with no consequences. In fact, the tissue would heal faster than the uterus would need to reach the size in order to put pressure on the intestines.

The number of visualizing procedures required after a Whipple procedure depends on the cause for the surgery and the actual health condition of the patient. So, your surgeon is the only one who should decide how many CT scans you might need in the three-month postoperative period.
