Q: when to start birth control before wedding

I am getting married in the summer and will be sexually active for the first time. I plan to take the birth control pill as we do not want to get pregnant right away. How many months before should I start the pill? I have heard 1 month is sufficient but due to potential side effects, is it better to start even earlier than that so that the side effects are gone/minimal by the time my wedding rolls around? I'm concerned about starting just one month before and potentially experiencing sudden weight gain.

jarsgirl BC wedding question
It can take your body 2 to 3 months to adjust to birth control. So u might experience irregular bleeding, nausea, and breast tenderness during this time, but that should clear up by 3 months. However, if u experience severe headaches, blurred vision, increased depression/irribility, shortness of breathe, chest pain or extreme pain in the arms or legs then stop taking the pills and call your doctor. As for the weight gain, BC can increase appetite which can lead to overeating, which can lead to weight gain, but if u watch what u eat, u should be fine. goodluck.

i agree with the above poster...i think you should go ahead and just start it now..a)you'll get used to taking it and b)it does take the body 2-3 months to adjust...I know that for me the entire first month of the first pack I had spotting which is very common and idk about you but I wouldn't want to deal with spotting during the month of my wedding! yikes...also, I did have headaches, nausea and random dizzy spells during the first 2-3 months..after that my side effects completely subsided...so definitely go ahead and get on it! It wont hurt! plus if you are one of us who ended up spotting the entire first pack of pills then you wont have to worry about that happening the month of your wedding
