The marketing company I work for is doing a campaign for Triaminic and their partnership with the National Association of School Nurses to create Sick Day Guidelines.

The Sick Day Guidelines aim to provide parents with the key signs that they should consider keeping their child home from school. They'll be available as a refrigerator magnet and will be handed out by school nurses across the country.

A lot of the guidelines I already follow, but it's a nice resource to have. What symptoms warrant you to keep your kids home from school? I know fever and throwing up are two big ones, but what about cold symptoms?

I don't think cold symtoms are a reason to keep a child home from school. Kids are going to have running noses throughout the school year because that's what accompianies cold weather.

Fever and vomiting are definitely reasons to keep a child from school, and if you know your child has an illness that is contageous. There are times that if we didn't push our children to just make it through, we wouldn't send them for a good part of the school year and they miss out on their education.

Thank you for your response, you make a very good point. The only reason I would keep my kids home from school with a cold symptom is if it was so bad that it prevented them from paying attention in class.
