Q: When Did Time Begin?

The concept of time is very complex according to me. While it's very easy to say how many hours make a day or how many days make a year, it's impossible to tell when did time begin, at least mathematically. If someone tells me time began when it was time zero my question would be what about the time before time zero? Irrespective of what one tells me I think it's logical for one to ask what about the time before that? The concept of time can be compared with a number line. A number line begins with negative infinity and ends with positive infinity, in between there are all real numbers. Having said so, my statement is actually wrong because infinity means beyond finite. It never ends. It begins from a place which has no beginning and it ends in a place which has no end! I know I am driving you mad now! Sorry for that. Time also begins from a point of no beginning and ends up at a point of no end. Time's begins from negative infinity and ends at positive infinity. I am making a mistake again probably because time never actually began and it probably will not end ever. Trying to find out the beginning or end of time is like finding the a real number solution for root over of a negative number. The resultant number is an imaginary one. There is no real solution. Both science and mathematics are helpless when it comes to the question of beginning or end of time. There are so many complex formulas in science and mathematics, yet the scientists can never tell us when time began and when it will end. Time was there from infinity and it will always be there till infinity. I know this a very weird topic but would like to hear from you people out there about this. What do you think of time? Do you think it ever began and will it ever end? Isn't the vastness of time much more incredible than the vastness of space?

Time is in the eye of the beholder. When it "begins" depends on the person viewing it. A fruit fly might think the hour it has to live is a huge lifetime while we shake our heads and pity the creature.

I've always thought time itself is infinite, and therefore has no beginning or end. Opinions vary but we have no way of proving it for the time being...at least, not while we're alive.

I think that the pity is mutual.

You are probably right lol. I, too, think time is in the eye of the beholder. Perspectives change, such as when one is REALLY waiting for something to occur (such as an upcoming event), time can seem to go by VERY slow. But if one is dreading something (such as a parent sending their child off to college), time seems to have flown by.

Time began before humanity, before life but since we only know that time existed when we lived, wouldn't exactly what darkmoon said?
