No mixing cereal in a bottle. That is a no-no.

I didn't start giving Kaylee any baby food or cereal until she was a few days from turning 4 months old. I started out with rice cereal & once she had that down I mixed sweet potatoes with it, then started giving her just plain sweet potatoes. Then we went on down thru all the veggies then fruits. We didn't stay on baby food too long though, I think about 7-8 months she was eating almost everything we were eating. Just don't rush it!

I think the dr's give the okay. If you haven't had your 3 month check up then ask when you go in for that.

I can't really give any advice because Luke eats food that 'normal' babies don't eat until they are a few months older than him. We feed him whatever the dietician or his CF dr says to eat which is high fat and nutrient rich foods.

Don't give him food before checking with your doc to be on the safe side. Mika was 13 weeks when she tried rice and then she tried fruits and veggies around 6-8 weeks later. If you do choose to give him rice now then do it with a spoon not a bottle

We put cereal in Gabe's bottle's by order of his doctor. He was spitting up after every feeding (even when he was only fed like, 3oz). So we tried cereal in his bottles & his spitting up stopped.

Other than that, he started eating from a spoon after his 4mos checkup. We started giving him single grain rice cereal mixed with stage 1 applesauce.

We did that with Luke after he was dx with acid reflux. It stopped the reflux but was too hard on his tummy. We ended up using Thickenup.

How is Gabe now? Does he still need thickener in his milk?

Nope! He's just fine, now.

Although sometimes I feel like he is a little skinny.
He's 13mos old & weighs 21lbs.. Which is the 25th percentile,
I think. But I still feel like h eneeds more meat on his bones!

Thankyou ladies! My son spits up almost evertime he has a bottle too. I havent had his "3 month check up" cuz up here they wont see him until his fourth month unless I have good reason (cold/flu or what not) so i'll check then i guess. I did ask my ped. when i could start him on baby foods today & they told me i can start now cuz my son is 17 pounds @ 3 months and is strong enough to hold his head up for a while on tummy time. and cuz he had more then doubled his birth weight. they also asked me how his tounge reflex was, the way i described they gave me the ok but said rice cereal from a spoon for starters, once a day to see how he adjusts & to call if any issues.

Here in the uk, the recommended age is 6 months, but you can obviously start earlier. You'll know yourself when your baby is ready to start solids. We started william at 3 months because milk was just not enough for him. He was constantly hungry

My daugher is still being breastfed and didn't start any baby foods until almost 7months. When she was about 3 months old she was acting hungry a lot and spitting up and I would feed her more and she would fuss and spit up more. Turned out she was getting gas from having too much milk. Sometimes babies act fussy and suck on their hands and stuff because they are having gas pains not because they are hungry. They will suck on a nipple when it's offered to them because that comforts them, but people often think they are starving when they actually have some other discomfort and the eating and eating is just making it worse.

Just saying. People are always saying that their babies can't get enough to eat without solids but if they can survive exclusively on breast milk for 6 months and more, it's probably something else bothering the baby.

My nurse said starting them early on food is easier on the parents sometimes but does nothing for the baby and can sometimes be harmful in that it can cause anemia and/or digestion problems.

I completely agree. I don't feel like it was easier at all and I plan on waiting until Destin is 5-6 months.

i gave my girls cereal mixed with formula at 2 months per dr orders and my brother was put on it when he was a week old per dr orders just depends on the dr so ask your dr hun they can help you with your questions
