What is ADHD?
Is it hard for your child to sit still? Does your child act without thinking first? Does your child start but not finish things? If so, your child may have ADHD. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) is a neurobiological disorder.  ADHD affects 3-5 percent of children in the United States and is characterized by developmentally inappropriate impulsivity, inattention, and in some cases, hyperactivity.

Nearly everyone may have difficulty sitting still, paying attention, or controlling impulsive behaviour at some time or another. But for some children and adults, the problem is so pervasive and persistent that it interferes with their daily lives at home, at school, at work, and in social settings.

Although not all children can be diagnosed with ADHD, some children are more at risk of developing the neurological disorder.  Who is at risk and what causes ADHD?  Continue reading the next section to understand and learn more about the causes of ADHD.
