what to expect when having a hida scan?

not bad just layon ur back 1.5 hrs so bring somthing 2 read but cramping diheria after eating for me anyways

I had one last week. Nothing to eat after midnight the night before. They put in an i.v. inject a radioactive isotope and image your body for an hr straight in which you have completely still. Then they give you a break let you pee or whatever then the inject you with something to make your gallbladder contract faster and harder it will hurt feels like cramping it also burns going in and makes you feel like your are going to puke don't worry you won't. Those feelings will pass in about 4-5 mins and you gotta lay there still for another 20-30 mins. Mine wasn't that bad but my gallbladder was bad so the contracting part really really hurt but it was worth it to find out what was wrong and have it fixed. Good Luck hope all goes well.

P.S. The best way to lay is to put your arms above your head it made it comfortable and try to maybe go a little sleep cuz I slept through about 20 min of the first hour.

hi thanks for your reply, so when you say they image your body for an hour does that mean they image all of your body or just the gallbladder and liver? sorry i suffer health anxiety really bad and need to know everything about it, i hate the thought of lying in one of those tubes :'(

i had the scan done but i didnt have a second injection i had to drink a fatty drink, felt slight pains and now i'm home i feel sick and tired! i also seen my liver gallbladder and intestines on the screen. did anyone else see it too? how long should i wait for results?

Was it an actual IV or did they just inject something into your vein? It seems like my dr. just mentioned one injection (not actually an IV) and then drink some type of fatty drink. I also have health anxiety so I would appreciate your information.

yea i had one injection (clear liquid into vein) the after 40 minutes i drank a fatty drink like u mentioned Xx
