Dear Doctors,

I am a 39 year old healthy woman. During the Abdomen and Pelvis ultra sound, the doctor found an 8.8x8.2x9.3 cm fibroid, and a 2x1.7x2.5 cm ovarian cyst. Further to confirm, I went through OVA-1 blood test, it came 5.1. Overall, I am not having any severe problems; I get some heavy periods, and sometimes my urine frequency increases.

Can you please advise, what should I do? I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Rachael

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Ova-1 blood test helps to detect cancer more accurately than other tumor markers (eg: CA 125). The likelihood of cancer depends on how high or low the score is on a scale of 0-10 and your menopausal status. Your score being 5.1 could suggest possibility of cancer (also depends on other evaluation findings). Go ahead with further evaluation to determine if there are cancerous changes. Discuss about the prognosis and your test values with your treating gynecologist. If surgery has been advised (for removal of fibroid and ovarian cyst), you should consider going ahead with it. During surgery, if malignancy is suspected, your treating gynecologist might consider doing a radical hysterectomy which would include removal of uterus, cervix and both the ovaries. Discuss about the options with your treating gynecologist/obstetrician before proceeding with the surgery.
Take care.
