My father aged 66 years is having a Pancreatic cysts in the head of the pancreas 3.0 (aP)x 2 (H) x 2.0 (W) cm in size. The main pancreatic duct in the body and tail was dilated (4.2mm)
The Microscopy report is as given below:
FNA smears from Pancreatic cyst:
The smear shows paucicellular proteinaceous material with an occasional cluster of epithelial cells. These cells have a uniform nucleus and moderate amount of pale cytoplasm. No malignant cells are seen.
Special stain for mucin is positive on the extracellular material.
the doctor has suggested surgery for removal of pancreas along with cyst totally. We need advice on the above diagnosis.
what should be done? should we go ahead with the surgery even if the cyst is benign.
