I need to find a TMJ specialist in the San Jose, California area. I need someone who can diagnose and treat this disorder. Any suggestions? What kind of doctor / dentist am I looking for? My ENT and my dentist do not deal with this.

Thanks.

I looked online and found the above speciaist..
I have TMJ and went to a Orthodontist and was made a mouth guard..For some this helps but for me it hurt immensely and I was unable to wear..I hae been told that I need to have my jaw broke and reset and someday may go that route..But, for now I use moith guards you can find at any store that kids use in sports..works just as well I think so far and not as hard as the specialist one..Best of luck to oyu..

Stay away from anyone claiming to be an LVI graduate!

For those of you interested in reseaching more...may I suggest you use your internet browser to search for "dental courses at LVI global" You can see what courses are offered by downloading the LVI Course Catalog which you will find at the lower left. Pay close attention to the first few pages where I quote, "Over 83% of LVI alumni have seen an increase in their net incomes." Hmmm.....do I see dollar signs??? If you take these courses then your licensed to practice...hmmmmm.....what about hands on training??? Hmmmm.guess you and I are the guinea pigs. I particular like the course titled, "Understand how to rapidly build trust". That course should pay off, or how about "Motivate patients to want comprehensive treatment without any sales pressure". Just take these courses and then you're good to go....you just have to find a patient who is so desperate to find someone to help them get relief from their TMJ that they will jump at the first dentist who is eager to apply his newly acquired knowledge and theories and take on a new money making venture. Check it out then make your judgment.

tmj doctor
You need an oral surgeon. If there is a medical school near by contact them to see if they have a dental school, they will have tmj specialist.

Please check http://www.tmj.org. To "tmj doctor": an oral surgeon should only be your last resort, after you have exhausted all other possible non-invasive treatments (which are plenty).

tmjsufferer, there is a an error in the link. you put a period after org - "tmj.org." - this leads to an error.

I think you meant www.tmj.org

A good oral surgeon will use conservaive treatment and not surgery, surgery is always a last resort.
