Hi and Welcome to eHealth
First and foremost.....my ass says EXIT ONLY. God did not intend for things to go into a rectum. Its a place where FECES(fecal matter is excreted... A colon cleanse or "detox" is like getting an enema....simply put, they stick a hose up your butt and blow your insides out with water. It can't be healthy, e coli bacteria is in fecal matter......I would not call sticking someting up your butt SAFE or beneficial. Ther will be plenty of folks here who will disagree, but hey.....each to his own...you asked for an opinion and you got one! Google it.....lots of celebrities do this before having to go for grammy awards. SUre you'll loose a few pounds...but gain it right back. Oh, My Gastro Dr. told me, the 7 pounds of dried caca "supposedly on the walls of your colon"...this is TOTAL BS. I watched the entire five feet of my colonosctomy.....Nice and pink....Hope this oppns your eyes a bit! Stick wiht plent y of water to hydrate, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and daily exercise....oh and a daily multi vitamin.

The only thing I will disagree with FGM about is that there are some medical uses for enemas. For example, in cases of extreme constipation, before colon surgery, a colonoscopy, or other procedure, and sometimes to women in labor (so they don't poo on the table).

Everything else, FGM is totally right. Your digestive system is very very efficient. All that stuff about toxins building up is a lot of hooey. It's something they used to believe in the 1800s, and some people still believe it, for some reason. It is also no more of a weight-loss technique than going to the bathroom normally.

There are risks to using enemas, such as dehydration (with over-use), rectal bleeding, and colon perforation; these aren't common, but are very serious when they do occur. Certain types of enemas have been known to cause death (with coffee enemas) and inflammatory bowel disease (ozone water enemas).

If you want to keep things...moving, eat a diet high in insoluble fiber--it's nature's broom!

You are CORRECT!
Lydia, I apologisze not only to you, but the entire forum people! When constipated it is MEDICALLY necessary and of this nature I agree. Before a colonoscopy, I was given a prep that did NOT require an enema.....whooooooooooo weeeeee. That was a day at the beach! Forgive me????????
