What causes the throat pain associated with TMJD?

I'm nearing the end of phase I treatment, just stopped wearing my splint. I had been pretty much symptom free for the last couple of months. Now I have throat pain on the side where my disc is displaced. My doc says I have developed scar tissue/a pseudodisc where the old disc used to be. What might be the cause of the throat pain? I don't think it is coming from the joint as I have no pain there. I had throat pain some time back but it went away with wearing my splint.
