What are symptoms of ovarian cysts?

I got a reeeally bad stabbing pain, suddenly in my lower abdomen today. It started in the middle and on the right, then after about half an hour spread to the left too. I felt nauseous. Its worse then anything I've ever felt. I took some nuerofen and the severity of the pain reduced, however there is still some sharp pain in the lower abdomen. I've had bad periods etc. before, but this sort of stabbing pain is new.
