I am almost 21 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby. I have been having constant menstrual-like pains in my lower abdomen, lower back, hips and radiating down my legs, for the last 2 and a half weeks. It has been getting more frequent and have also had small bleeds at least twice a week since 8 weeks. I have also had blood show up in my urine at the last three visits to the doctor and hospital but with no explanation. They tell me it could be ligament pain but it feels exactly like menstrual cramping. Rest doesn't help, slight movement makes me more comfortable. Have tried rest, heat packs, non of which have helped. I also have been taking codiene for the pain. The doctors I have seen have done no tests and I have not recieved any answers. Please help.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Any spotting or bleeding in first trimester should never be ignored. It can be due to simple causes such as cervicitis (infection/inflammation of cervix), vaginitis (infection/inflammation of vagina), or it can also be due to a part of uterine lining sloughing or due to threatened abortion. Sometimes it happens without a cause.

Also since you have blood in urine, you could be having a UTI. You should follow this up with your gynecologist and schedule an ultrasound if one was not done after bleeding episodes started. Hope this helps. Take care!
