Is this offered at your hospital? Some hospitals don't have water births available.

Are you planning a home birth? Is your midwife set up for homebirth? You'll need to get your homebirth kit together if this is your plan.

yh me and my midwife were talking about my birthing plan and stuff. i aint really a fan of hospitals. Helen (my midwife) says that she has had other women in the area have them,

i have tlked alot to helen, but i wondered if anyone thought that there are any setbacks?

Medical intervention is one setback - but since that doesn't sound like something you want, a homebirth is a great idea. If your MW is capable (licensed) for homebirth and you have a hospital phobia, it might be just the thing for you.

Is your family supportive of this?

I was born underwater at home, back in the 80s it wasnt as popular but now adays it is becoming increasingly popular especially at birthing centers vs standard hospitals.

yh my MW has done a few home births, including water births,

yh my family are really supportive of it, they wern't too impressed with me getting pregnant at first, but they soon realised it was mine and lews dession. i am really gratefull of it, cus they are helping me all the time.

its wierd though cus i live in a very small village and everyone stares at me when i go out. plus i have ppl giving dirty looks when i go to my horses.

I think a water birth is an awesome idea. They have kits that you can order online. They include the tub and set up services where they fill it up and stuff. There are also tubs you can order that are very fancy and have a heater in them or you can order a normal tub and fill it up yourself. And you can always got o Wal-Mart and buy a small inflatable pool deep enough for you to float and long enough to stretch.

There are many options. The ideal temperature for a water birth is about the same as a very hot bath. The heat offers more comfort and pain releif. But I dont think the heat is a necessity. The best thing I think is you can birth anywhere you want to. You can set it up in your bed room or even outside! I have seen births (internet) where the woman can go back and forth from her bed to the pool during labor.

So as long as your midwife is on your side I say do it. She qualified to handle any emergency services. So not being at a hospital isnt that bad. Plus you can always call the paramedics if anything happens.
