We have a ton of new cloths, I haven't even taken the tags off of them yet. I was wondering if I should go through and wash all the babies cloths before he gets here and wears them the first time? Just kinda wondering what everyone else does since I am a first time mom and a bit lost. lol

I washed all my girls' clothes before they wore them. "Just in case." I have found that Dreft is real nice and gentle. Still to this day, I use it instead of anything else and they are 6. You never know about clothes.

Ok I will definitly wash all his cloths then. I just wasn't sure but I guess better safe then sorry, plus we both have sensative skin so I am sure our son probley will. I did get a big bottle of Dreft and Dreft stain remover at my baby shower so I am definily set on that! Thanks for your input, I just didn't want to be the "over protective mom". lol

My mother always washed our clothes before we wore them. I do the same thing with my little one. I used one big bottle of Dreft then just went to regular detergent. Thankfully she's not allergic to any of it and her skin isn't sensitive.

Yeah I think I will probley just use up the dreft then switch cuz I can only use Gain and its pretty gentle. I priced the Dreft and for the bottle that someone bought me it was like $19 thats expensive! Its just funny because my boyfriend says all the time I am gonna be overprotective and it drives me crazy. I am not trying to be that way I am just lost when it comes to this whole baby thing but hes a man and just don't understand. lol

I'm originally from PA and I never paid that much for a big bottle. as long as the baby isn't allergic, that fine to change. I think, (don't quote me) but, I think they need to be one year old. Like I said, I'm not sure. Discuss it with your pediatrician.

I always wash my daughter's clothes before allowing her to wear them. You never know where they've been before they come into your home, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

We don't use Dreft. It's too expensive. We just use our normal detergent. Our daughter has never had an adverse reaction to it. I would personally only buy Dreft or other expensive brands if my child had a reaction to the normal detergent, or at the recommendation of his/her pediatrician.

The only reason I used the one bottle of Dreft that I did was because I had a $10 coupon, lol. That just proves how expensive it is. Plus we use the cheapest dollar store brand we can find. Again, no bad reactions to it, so that's why we use it. She was probably a little less than a month old when I ran out of the bottle.

Yeah I will definitly see how things go with his skin when he comes because I hate to waste money on stuff I don't need. Thanks for everyone for your input!! I appreciate it!!

LOL 96 loads will go quick. I use dollar store brand too when my expenses aren't in the ditch. But, my husband is allergic, so dreft was really the best thing for me. I never had reactions with other products with the girls. Thank goodness cause with the economy the way it is. Almost all babies can handle another detergent. I just thought you had to wait until a year. Sorry.

My mom never used 'gentle' detergent with the 3 of us. To be honest the more you try to 'protect' them from allergies and germs, the more allergies they develop and the more they get sick.

Think about it. How does ones body develop an immune system if they are never exposed to the germs? Not to be mean or insensitive, by I HATE Lysol and Clorox moms. Its ridiculous. Their kids are the ones who are sick from school the most.

Just a quick tip: you can use a lot less than the recommended measurements. Hot or cold water (depending on the stain) can get out most dirt. My uncle is a chemist and he tried an experiment with his children's soiled cloth diapers. You would be surprised what a good cleansing agent water is. It is the excess residue from the detergent that is not rinsed out that causes the allergic reaction....using less instead of more will help Smile

I never used Dreft either, but I am considering going all natural, using something like 7th Generation.
