I just joined this forum to unfortunately touch basis with someone who has had a child who has experienced the nightmare my 8 yr old did and continues to have. Long story short my daughter in early March 2011, was taken to the same hospital, and seen by the same ER Dr twice, for all the symptoms of a appendicitis. We were told she had a stomach virus and sent home both times. A day after the second ER visit, we took our daughter to see a friend of our's ped's Dr, because our's was out of town. Within literally minutes of examining our daughter she told us she believed her belly was full of fluid so she can call an ambulance or insisted we take her back to the ER. Before we left for the ER, she asked if a CT scan was done on our previous ER visits, which was not. My daughter was diagnosed, after a CT scan, by a different ER Dr with a ruptured appendicitis, and immediately taken to surgery. She had 400cc's of puss removed and we were told the recovery time was 3 to 10 days in the hospital. This was not the case we spent a month in the hospital due to abscesses, fevers, diarrhea, e-coli, and high white blood cell count. After day 27, we were discharged, but were re-admitted after a couple of days because of a infection (C-Dificile), her Dr told us she most likely got during her long hospital stay. We have been home over a month but she has complained the past week of some stomach pain and did develop some diarrhea. I did leave out alot of procedures she endured during her hospital stay, and in home nursing.
Can anyone with a similar experience please tell me the possible on-going complications. I heard this could have life long complications, I pray this is not the case. I will be taking my daughter to her Dr tomorrow. Any comments will be appreciated. Thank You!!!
