hi.
in mid april i had unprotected sex four days in a row. about two weeks after this (early may), i had a period, roughly on schedule, but lighter and shorter than usual. (i usually bleed 7 days, somewhat moderate flow, but this particular period was about 4 days long and pretty light)...
the next month (june) my period was running late. 10 days into this lateness, i started to get some very strange and progressively heavy discharge (clear mucos-like and very thick but often with a beige tint and with flecks of brown tissue, also heavy watery brown discharge that continued for a few days and tapered down with time, sometimes it had brown tissue in it, and every time i'd wipe, there would be some beige tinted discharge on the toilet paper). this was also accompanied by slight shooting or dull pains in my lower abdomen, especially in the first day of it, and when all of this started, i did feel kind of teary-eyed. also, a couple of weeks before this all started, i did get a few headaches (which i never get otherwise), and my nipples seemed somewhat larger. the discharge was not accompanied by any irritation and did not have an unusual odor (not even the slight odor of a yeast infection). normally, i have a very regular period, and in my entire adult life (10 years), i've never missed a single one or have ever been exceptionally late. i have not gained or lost any excessive weight recently (my weight is always the same-130, at a height of 5'5), though i have been exercising way less in the past three or four months as well, compared to how i usually have been in the last 2 years. i am not under more stress than usual, though during the time that i had unprotected sex two months ago, i did experience a very stressful but brief event involving domestic violence. i have not had sex since then. i am 29, and eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and grains. i was anorexic and severely underweight on and off in my teen years, and sometimes i would miss my period during that time for a few months when i was too skinny (but ever since i recovered i haven't been underweight, and i haven't missed a single period). i smoke less than half a pack of cigarettes a day (just started again in the last half year after a few years of quitting/smoking 1 a day, but when i've smoked regularly before in the past it's usually never been more than 5 or less cigs a day, except the first year i started when i was eighteen--then it was like a half pack a day... and i do drink a moderate amount of alcohol, like 7 or less drinks a week, which i've started to do in the last year, but i've always consumed alcohol in moderation on and off through out my adult life...usually once or twice a month since i was eighteen). i have never had abnormal pap smears (last one was in october 2008), or any other health problems. sorry for all the details, but hopefully it will help with my question.
well, a day into this discharge experience, i took a pregnancy test at home that came up negative. once the weekend cleared, and most of the discharge had subsided by then (it had lasted for about 4 days), i scheduled an appointment (on monday) for the next day (tuesday) to get a beta blood test. a couple days later, the office called me back and told me my hcg level was at 3. by this time, all of the discharge and other odd symptoms in my body had dissipated, but i never had a proper bleed.
i've read that normally a woman is considered pregnant with a count of 5 hcg or more, but i've also read that most non-pregnant women have an hcg level at or below 2, but usually it's not even detectable, and at a level of 0. i know that by this point of taking the blood test (more than 7 weeks) there's no way that i'm still pregnant (if i ever was) because of how low the hcg was in my blood--- but i am wondering if the low but detectable level of hcg in my blood (3) is the residual result of a lost pregnancy, and the discharge and other symptoms i experienced indicated a miscarriage. i've never experienced anything like that in my life before, and i've felt way more stressed out in earlier times on and off through out my life, but my cycle has never been effected by stress...also, one more thing, no one in my family has experienced early menopause. usually for my relatives, menopause gets in full swing during their early 50's (all of whom are or were very heavy smokers when compared to me, but did/do not drink much at all)...but i know that hcg levels rise in peri-menopausal women who are not pregnant...so, i'm also worried that could be happening to me at the early age of 29? or is it something else?
or, was all this indicatory of an early miscarriage?
thanks for your help.
