Hello and welcome to e health forum. ‎

Norethisterone (Eg,. Primolut N tablets) is a synthetic hormone similar ‎to the naturally occurring sex ‎hormone, progesterone. This medication is used to prolong the periods ‎in women who are not ‎pregnant. ‎

The maximum number of days, this medication can be taken at a stretch is about 10-14 days. The ‎medication is initiated about 3 days before the expected period and withdrawal bleeding occurs 3-4 ‎days after stopping the pill. ‎

Hence you should consult your doctor for proper advice, before trying this medication for more than 14 days.

With regarding to interactions with your current medications: - Medications like sulfatrim - can cause reduced action of norethisterone, and they induce its ‎metabolism by the liver. In addition patients with renal impairment , and on antihypertensives ‎‎(Avapro) should be cautious while taking this medication. ‎

In case, you do prefer to avoid pregnancy, and postpone the monthly bleeding use of progestogen-‎‎estrogen combinations is preferred, because the occurrence of a pregnancy is virtually ruled out by ‎‎the inhibition of ovulation by such medications. ‎
‎ ‎
You might consult your doctor who can prescribe you a proper hormonal combination medication that ‎‎can act as a contraceptive as well as postpone your periods. ‎
‎ ‎
I hope this helps.‎
