Q: Waking up with Migraines

I have suffered since my teens with migraines. During the last 7 years they have been much worse to the point that I can no longer work. I am on currently on Zomig, skelaxin, and prednisone for the last attack. I have tried sleep studies, botox injections, preventatives, acupuncture, you name it. I always felt they got worse after I had a hysterectomy so I thought they were hormonal. I normally wake up with them. I recently took a trip and was away from home 10 days(I took my special pillow with me to sleep on). No headaches in all those days. I now realize about the time I had a hysterectomy I also purchased a new mattress(Select comfort air mattress). I recently read that the chemicals in these mattresses may cause migraines. Have you ever heard of this before? If you had, am I better off to try and buy an organic mattress? Thanks!

You have a familiar history. Other patients report the same findings. It is thought that is not the chemicals that are the problem, but rather, cranial/cervical positioning
of the head, neck and torso. Find out what kind of mattress you slept on for the 10 days. Try to duplicate it. Make sure when you buy a new mattress you also receive "a comfort assurance" so you can send it back if it does not help you.
