Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with Lichen a few months or so ago. I have been doing as much research as I can and trying out different things to help it from worsening. I have come across questions along the way. Most websites say generally the same thing.

My history- I was told I have mild lichen. The main symptom was being very itchy. My skin didn't start discoloring until about a month before my biopsy and only in a small spot. I used clobetasol (sp?) for almost 2 months. I feel I have it under control for the most part (as far as I know). I just have little itches here and there. I still use the cream about once a week or so.

My questions:
I am absolutely terrified of losing my vulvar area and sexuality. I am not able to find clearly why the vulva area shrinks and whatnot. Is it due to so much itching, which in tern causes it to scar, etc? Or does this just occur naturally? I just don't understand. Is the main goal to prevent from itching so it doesn't cause further complications such as cancer and shrinking etc? Can the degree of lichen change with a major flare up...for example someone have very minor lichen and then a major flare up occurs which makes the person have severe lichen?

I am only 24 years old. I am wondering if anyone has had this for a long time and has been able to manage it and keep a normal sexual life, etc? Or am I doomed?

I am trying to do as much as I can to control this. I don't know if it's a lose lose game or if many people are able to control this. From what I read from people, a lot of it makes me feel like the future doesn't look very bright in that sense, but I keep the hope!

Please help!

dear j38, I am 55 and was diag with LS this past jan 2010. I have had it since ect 08. It took that long and numerous docs to get the correct diag.
Anyway, I see Dr Goldstein in Wash dc. He is fabulous.
He started me on a temovate onitment not cream( it does make a difference if it is ointment). Used it 2 times a day for 4 months. I also started PT in Ashburn Va with a PT that specializes in this disorder. The PT was difficuklt, embarrassing and overwhelming. However, I worked my butt off due to the fact that I was not ready to live a sexless life with my husband and having a deformed vulvar/ vaginal area.
I fiollowed most of the program in the Vaginismus book.
I am now on Temovate 2 times a week, no longer need PT, I am having sex with husband and Dr G has started me on a compounded Hormone gel to be applied am/pm on the very tight mucosa tissue that is located between 4 oclock and 7 oclock.
I hope this helps you. I can ay for sure that stress being "held" in that area was and still is a problem for me. Deep breathing exercises and releasing in that area makes all the difference. PT was an absolute must and I have also learned to cope with it alll with phyco therapy.
Mine was very bad, no clothes could touch that area, haven't had sex in 2 1/2 yrs... Sex is slower now but much better, Orgasms are slower to achieve but are like 4th of July when it happens.
I hope this helps to answer questions.
You may write me. if you would like to chat some more.
good luck

Lichen Sclerosus
been there done that-
What changes to your vulva did youe experience and has the medication now kept it at bay. Did your skin thin out quite a bit and your labia flatten? Did it later restore?
Do you also use estrogen? I have an appt with Dr Goldstein but not until April of next year....a lot can happen between now and then, although I m seeing another doctor. Were you happy with Goldstein?
Was your skin white? Has the thickness come back at all? Thanks,L
