Great tips, thanks! You can request a hair mineral analysis to see which minerals your body is lacking, and then take those supplements. Also, Gaia Herbs puts out a Skin & Nail Support supplement that a former co-worker of mine swore by. She had LONG hair, I'd think that it works...
