Hi, my ent diagnosed me with a viral ear infection. He prescribed 60mg cortisone per day for 7 days. I have completed the course, but still dont feel better. I did go back to him and he said I should wait a while.

The only problem is...I cant take this feeling anymore!!! It's making me miserable and unhappy. I'm getting married in Dec and I cant feel like this on my wedding day.

The ent said one gets the virus due to stress, lack of sleep etc (my immune system is down).
Are there any vitamins I can take to speed up my recovery, cos i've been feeling like this for more than 4mths now.?

I cant do anything.....it feels like im going to pass out while driving or when i go shopping. I start feeling clammy and then i feel as if im going to black out.

Please help

Why is he so sure it's a viral infection and not bacterial? Call the doctor and ask about some pain medication, such as ear drops with a numbing medication. I wouldn't worry about feeling like this on your wedding day. December is far enough away that this should be resolved far before then.

You can also take over-the-counter pain medication (although it may not be enough) and apply a warm compress to the ear.

Have you been checked for a sinus infection?

Was the cortisone for the fever blisters? If you get those, you may want to ask the doctor about herpes suppressing drugs to help control them.

Since this has been going on so long, you may want to get a second opinion from either another ENT or your primary care doctor.

no, the cortisone was for the viral ear infection. I dont get them often...maybe 1 a year. He said my immune system is just down at the moment....maybe due to wedding stress. I'll get viral guard and other vitamins though

hearing loss in rt.ear due to possible viral infection
I can only hear muffled sounds from my rt ear. I have been to 3 doctors and the last doctor said he thought I had a viral infection in my ear - My hearing was perfect in my rt ear until 2 months ago and I awoke one morning dizzy, couldn''t walk straight, no balance. they have given me various forms of antiobotics - Will I ever regain hearing in my rt ear? Is it my sinsus? Have I lost hearing for good? Is there anything that can be done?

Ok, so after a week of feeling these exact same symptoms (dizziness, nausea, heart racing/panicky, etc...) and after ready these forums, i decided to go see the dr. After a thorough exam, he came to the conclusion that i had an ear infection (surprise)... even tho its a possibility that it could be a viral infection he prescribed me "amoxycillin" 500mg and some antibacterial/anti fungal ear drops. I just started this treatment literally 12 hours ago and have felt the pressure from my sinuses release a little and im not actually able to get some sleep without feeling like im on a rollercoaster...

but the reason im writing here is because i've had these symptoms in the past and have never come up with any ideas to help with the dizzy nausea etc... feelings until this week...

Most of you have mentioned feeling "fluttering" in your ear which contributes to the dizzy, or swimming feeling in your head... and i've noticed that if you take just a dry cotton ball and put it in the ear that is affected by this sound it helps with the fluttering and your balance feels close to normal again. This is a great "temporary" solution until u get to see your dr. I wanted to share this with everyone because for the first time in about 10 years of ear problems, i was able to continue doing the things i normally do each and every day just by using a cotton ball (do not use any medication unless your doctor says its ok)

I hope this helps at least 1 person...
