Viral ear infection - Labyrinthitis

I've had ringing in my ears since 2/14/11. 1 week previous I had the flu reallly bad with a really high fever. I had to take advil everyday for 5 days and felt really fatigued for 2 days after that, then felt fine the 8th day and that night the ringing started. I think it is only in my right ear but it is hard to tell. I woke up for two nights having extreme ringing causing me to have panic attacks and anxeity. I finally went to the doc and he said it is a viral thing in my ear, gave me some Valium, and told me it could b 3 to 4 weeks before it goes away. It has gotten a little quieter but is still their and more noticable in the morning and in quiet rooms. Had any one ever had this, and did the ringing ever go away. If it did how long did it take? Any responses would b so much appreciated because I think I'm becoming overly worried about this.

Hi Jules14....Yes, I have had this...It will go away, but it can drive you bananas while you have it...I think it has something to do with the ear drums...Take care...

Hi again: Honestly, I can't remember...Thinking back it seems just like that it was gone...If it continues I would check it out with a ENT specialist...I kind of question the Valium for a medication...Take care...

The Valium was prescribed because my wars were ringing so bad that I was having panic attacks. It been used to help treat merienes (sp) disease also. I took it for about 14 days only at night though because it makes u really tired. I noticed on march 3rd the ringing had subsided a bit. It is still there a little but much more manageable. I started taking airborne everyday this weeks as well as eating 1 clove of raw garlic each day to try and boost my immune system. I also increased my water intake. The ringing seems to get louder again though when I am tires or I drink warm liquids and my sinuses hurt a little. I will b going for a checkup tomorrow and will see what the doc says. All in all I beleive I'm slowly getting better. His is definately a long drawn out thing!!!!

Hi again Jules14...I am glad that you are getting better..Valium can help settle you down and now I understand the reason for this prescription...Vertigo can also cause a ringing in your ears so be careful that you don't get water in them...This can do it for me so I wear ear plugs when I shower and wash my hair....Stay safe and take care...
