very uncomfortable reverse burping
Posted: 02-19-08 15:48pm

I have been desperately trying to find out about this online, and the only thing I found was a link to Urban Dictionary....

For as long as I can remember, I've often had this weird reverse burping thing going on. I can't seem to find out what causes it - it's especially bad if I drink carbonated beverages and things like that, but it also appears randomly, whether I've eaten anything or not. It feels as though I need to burp, but I don't know how, and instead it makes a weird internal sound (kind of like one of those weird sound tubes they make for kids) and I can feel the air moving in my throat. It can be pretty embarrassing, because sometimes it's quite loud, but more importantly it's terribly uncomfortable. It also makes me feel like I should eat something to sort of fill up space, but eating never really makes it go away, either. I've tried using things like Mylanta and Rolaids and all that stuff, but it doesn't really help. It's like it just has to go away on its own, and often the only thing that makes me feel better is to lie down, but when I get back up it comes back. What the hell is this problem?! Has anyone heard of this? And what can I do about it?! Please help me, because it's getting to be too much for me Sad

Could be GERD. Google this for more info and definitely see your doctor.

I can't believe how many threads I am seeing on this problem that I am also suffering with. When is someone going to be able to help us???? I'm posting on all the threads hoping that someone can give some new advice. I've tried relaxation excercises before eating, no smoking, no carbonation, no gum. Nothing works except anti-anxiety meds which I can not longer handle physically. However, this gurgling/burping problem is also more than I can handle. I can't eat until evening anymore because I need to lie down after I eat. My doc won't help me but someone needs to help all of us sufferers soon!!!!!

My wife says she's going to kill me if I don't cut out my reverse/forward burping.
I'm 68 and just started doing it about 6 months ago. It really is revolting and perhaps I should let her get the job over with, but she chickens out and laughs just when she is about to give me one with the rolling pin.
I've tried 2 doctors, but they say there is nothing wrong with me and to just walk around a bit more, or take Gaviscon or upgrade my Losec dosage, but none of them help.

Someone, somewhere, must have an answer to our problem?
