Need help for my daughter which lives 21 hours away. She called me two weeks ago when very red bumps (with drainage) broke out on her ankles. She came home the next week and it traveled to her shins and the back of her thighs....it looks very much like poison ivy...did all the home remedies.....she gets back home and it continues to travel to her upper thighs and now is on her hands (which is causing some pain) and the back of her hands, elbows, and more sprouting on her legs even though the original ones have started to 'dry' up. Once back home she went to her medical doctor who also treated her for poison ivy with a steroid cream.....she did a story (she's a reporter) with an emergency room about poison ivy...that doctor checked her out and said he didn't know what it was but didn't think it was poison ivy. She has been given a perscription for a steroid cream and an anti-itch pill. Please help...it has gone from her ankles, to her thighs, and now her elbows and hands

Hi, welcome to the ehealth forum and I am glad to help you.
Your concern seems to be painful itchy red bumps with some drainage which started on your daughter's ankles and then spread to shins, thighs, hands and elbows.
The possibilities in your daughter's case include boils, insect bite , contact with an irritant such as poison ivy or hives. The boils require an antibiotic whereas others are usually helped by steroid cream and cool compresses to control the itching. You must consult your personal physician for definitive diagnosis as the same is not possible online.
Hope this helps. Take care.
Note: This post is not to emphasise final diagnosis as the same cannot be made online and is aimed just to provide medical information and no treatment suggested above be taken without face to face consultation with health care professional.
