I havent had menstrual period in about 3 months I am 44 and have been missing mentrual cycles for the past year. I awoke yesterday with a severe dull achy lower back(never had back problems) along with very very heavy bright red bleeding. Should I see a doctor?

Everything I've read says that menstrual blood can range from bright red to red-brown in color. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Mine is usually bright red at the beginning of my period and red-brown toward the end. The color is determined by how old the blood is and how much oxygen is in it. The more oxygen, the brighter and the older the blood, the darker it will be.
