There wasn't an ENT section so I posted this in the closes forum I could think of. Sorry it's so long. In October 2008 I felt a lump under my left ear, between the base of my skull and jaw bone. It is about the size of an elongated egg yolk. Its in that soft space. It was then and still is painless, hard, and does not move. I've been watching it, I went to my primary DR on March 9 2009, she said it was deffinetly a lymph node, she said there's nothing to worry about but she wanted me to see an ENT. She did say that she wanted the ENT to biopsy it. It has gotten larger in the past 6 months. Primary said she found another one on the right side, under ear. Exactly the same as left side except it's smaller. She ordered a CBC, came back normal, brain CT, came back noraml. I went to the ENT March 26 2009, he said that he thinks it is a bone. I was taken aback by that because it was never there before last fall. He said that he thinks it is the bone of my top cervial vertebrae (c-1) protruding through my neck under my left ear, he felt around my neck, didn't metion the right side. He ordered a neck CT w/contrast. He wanted it done the same day, but my insurance company requires pre-certification for that. So I should get it done in the next couple of days. My question is...... has anybody ever heard of the cervical bone protruding through the neck with NO neck injuries? It seems anatomically impossible to me. Thank you in advance!

Whoa, you need a new ENT...
You have parotid tumor(s), especially with the bilateral incidence. My husband just had his 3rd tumor removed yesterday, his symptoms were the same as yours. Took 1 yr to get his properly diagnosed and a biopsy was performed by his ENT to validate the tumor was non-malignant prior to surgery. GET A NEW DOC, I would have someone else read the CT scan as well, they are very recognizable with the proper education.. BTW, he actually had 3 tumors, 2 on one side, 1 on the other.
