Hello Fellow Vegetarians!!!
I was just wondering if any of you were long distance runners? I ran XC this year and plan too all through highschool, but I was wondering what I needed to stay healthy through it. I'm not going to give up being a Vegetarian (NEVER!) or a runner through anything (obviously unless it's a death situation) but anyways, is there certain supplements I should be taking? Now that my season is over, I don't see my coach barely, so I can't ask him. I'am strictly vegetarian, which imo means NO fish (it's still a dead animal!!). And plus I don't really like fish. If I was forced too I would eat eggs, but I prefer not to eat them, because I don't really like them. I'm currently taking Calcium and flaxseed oil supplements. I asked my doctor about B12, but he said I would need calcium more than that, because I eat boca burgers, morning star etc type stuff often enough. Thank you!!!!!!!!

I am not personally a vegetarian, but I know a sports trainer who has been vegetarian for over 2 years and has energy beyond belief! People who follow vegetarian diets can get all the nutrients they need. However, you must be careful to eat a wide variety of foods to meet your nutritional needs. Nutrients vegetarians may need to focus on include protein, iron, calcium, zinc and vitamin B12. I'd suggest that you perhaps meet with a nutritionist who can consult you on a personal diet. You can find a nutritionist here:
