My wife recently had a hysterectomy about a month ago. Her hysterectomy was a partial I guess. Only the uterus was removed. They tried to get the cervix, but that was attached to the bladder via scare tissue so they tried to remove as much as possible but were not able to get it all due to fear of damaging the bladder. About 3 weeks after the surgery she woke up and went to the bathroom only to find that there was a blot clot followed by bleeding. We went to emergency where they did a CT scan and said that nothing looked out of the ordinary. However, since then she has passed several very large clots, some probably the circumference of a baseball and she continues to bleed throughout the day. She also followed up with her OBGYN the following day and he stated the same thing. Though not as large, she still is passing blood clots and is bleed as if it were menstrual. She knows that some bleeding or discharge after the surgery was expected, but the clots being that extreme and now almost two weeks of bleeding, something doesn't seem right. I don't feel like my wife is getting the right answers or something else might be going on. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this?

I don't know what could be the cause of this, however, I do think that they should do some blood work on her...See how high her blood count is...That's a lot of blood to lose after a surgery...If you are not happy with your OB-GYN, get a second opinion...As far as the cause I would think it is from the partially removed cervix...I hope they look into this...Please keep us advised...Take care...

I had a TLVH about 3 weeks this Wednesday, the procedure went well after only a night stay at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City Ca. My surgeon Dr. Kate O'Hanlan is the most proficient doctor that I truly trust to have done this procedure. The recovery was great so far until 3 days ago I had bloody vaginal discharged, I did freak out for a few hours and decided to call her and get her advice. She was in Florida teaching her TLH surgeries to other obgyns around the world. She listened to my nervous and freak out comments and told me that it was going to happen, due to the tissues healing and that the vaginal wall is settling to it's place. The bloody discharged was a scary experience, it was lots of chunky clotted blood and gushing feeling of blood. I had at least soaked 10 to 12 pads within 4 hours. After following her advice, to take it easy and lay down, with no heavy lifting, after a night sleep, woke up this morning there's no bleeding discharge just spotted blood on the pads. Kate called me this morning and was pleased that my bleeding stop. So if anyone out there not sure of any discharge after the procedures, should call their physician just for a reassurance and piece of mind. You know your own body and need to be aware of it. There's no stupid questions to ask your doc with any concerns. Good luck.
