Q: Vaginal bleeding and cramps during pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 20th, 2008
i am almost to my 12 week mark, and i have been bleeding daily for over a month. all ultrasounds detect normal heartbeat and development and lab work indicates pregnancy is going well. however, they do not know why i have continuous bleeding. some days are heavier then others, i have very little crmping. i am just curious if this is normal for some women....does it have something to do with my uterus being in the shape it is......or if there are possible reasons and or concerns i should be aware of. i am a member of a large hmo that seems to be always overbooked with appointments, so they are always in a hurry and i cant really get answers out of them. maybe there really is no explanation but i thought it wouldnt hurt to ask.

Pregnancy Q and A Answer A4319
Have a diagnosis for the current condition: yes
Diagnosis that has been suggested: pregnant and have a bicorniate....not sure if i spelled that right...heart shaped uterus
Current medical status: have had several ultra sounds and blood work done as well as a diabetes test
Current medical treatment: weekly doctors visits as well as lab work and untrasounds. sometimes pelvic exams

Vaginal bleeding and cramps during pregnancy should be taken very seriously because it usually indicates an incoming abortion. Since the ultrasound scan is okay the reason for the bleeding is probably not an abortion. It could be a vaginal infection or maybe a tumor. A vaginal examination and blood tests (blood count, hemoglobin, CRP…) can be requested. It is very important to locate the exact source of bleeding.

You may want to consult an obstetrician about this.
