Q: UTI and E-coli cause PID ?

Hello Dr.
I am married man and my wife is saying that she has PID. She had suffered from UTI and detected with E-coli. She had got treatment for UTI and cured completely. Can UTI with E-coli can cause PID? as there is no symtoms of any STD or any STI. At the same time she was also treated for appendicities with medicines.
