Q: Uterus hard and tender
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 3rd, 2009
For the last several years during my period and about a week after my uterus would feel so hard and tender and swollen. This last time it hurts more than before. Also, the pain is moving around to my back and up a little higher just on my right side. At first I thought it was IBS, but I don't really have constipation and never diarrea. I go to the bathroom almost daily at least once if not twice. Doesn't hurt to pee. I have had 3 ultrasounds for my gallbladder over the last 10 years and nothing but sludge when I was pregnant. Could this be anxiety related, since I do have very severe anxiety symptoms.

According to the symptoms you reported (painful period, pain moving to back, no pain during urination) you might be experiencing dysmenorrhea. No exact cause that causes the dysmenorrhea is identified.
You might want to take some over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs to decrease the pain. Hormonal contraception pills might be recommended by your gynecologist. Non-drug therapies include: acupuncture, acupressure and chiropractic care.
