Q: Using drugs while pregnant

I'm on this other site trying to help a 14yr girls whos 10 weeks pregnant, but she says she did crystal meth, cocaine, weed, ecstasy, and occasionally took other drugs too up until she was 5 weeks pregnant. On top of that she also says she drank heavily and she says she was anorexic before too. I have two questions. First, does this story even sound somewhat believable? Second, if it was real what are the chances of a miscarriage, like birth defects, or mental illness?

Its hard to know without talking to her, and i dont know the full story. She could be making it up, but you'd be surprised how many young people do all the above things for many different reasons. Its shocking i know but all we can do is try and help! As for the birth defects and mental illness, that can be possible but it was early in the pregnancy so i am not quite sure, is she not seeing a doctor?

It sounds believable. If she was already addicted to drugs prior to falling pregnant she may be asking now as she is concerned for her babys health. I'm not sure what effects it could have on the baby though. I'm assuming it could effect it but it may not necessarily however it would be very wise to stop.

I hope someone with a little more knowledge can give you some more useful advise.
