I'm a psych student and married to an engineer. I'm pretty open, liberal, and like to help people. I also love animals! I have two cats and a quaker parrot. I am interested in anything mental health/education related and also reproductive health/birth control.

If you are taking the active pills, and then wait, for example, 10 days before you start taking more active pills, your protection from pregnancy will be compromised.

Here's the easy way to think about it- take every pill, in order, until they are all gone, and then start at the beginning of a new pack.
Of course, you're right, you don't have to take the inactive pills. But, if you don't take them (or at least wait until that much time passes) then you might confuse your cycle the next time around, or have some... more
You can just start now, that's fine. However, if you start it when you get your period, there will be a better chance that your period will be on a normal schedule sooner. If you start mid-cycle, your period might get weird for a few months and you might have some spotting.

For women who can't take estrogen, for sure. Progestin only methods really just aren't the greatest, at least they weren't for me. And neither was an IUD.
