this might not answer your questions.
I am guessing that the uric acid meter that you bought might not be as accurate as having your uric acid measured at the lab.

Have you consulted with your doctor yet to see what he thinks about measuring uric acid level on your own?

I also read somewhere that it is best to try to make the swollen gone before trying the allopurinol.

Hopefully his swollen will get better over time.
