May I also add that the tooth might be hurting because when filled, the bite was messed up a little bit. One little spot might stand higher and because you clench your teeth, you continue to aggravate the tooth. You should be checked for both an exposed nerve and a changed bite. Lumps in the neck are frequently muscle knots, which in my opinion and experience, are directly associated with TMJ. Massage and moist heat do help.

Hi Ellen, Also check to make sure that the dentist didn't change your bite by making the crown too high. Any little change to the bite can also affect the jaw. I pray that you will find a new therapist/chiro and that your TMJ will calm right down. Thank God, my TMJ is doing well even tho I went back to the "stressful" job. God bless... Carol... more

Gradgirl - get another opinion from another "specialist." Get two or three or more opinions from various specialists BEFORE making any major decision such as surgery.
