I have had two hernias that I got operated on, and have had three since. So chances of them coming back? With me high, with others maybe not so much. It depends on the repair, and the reason why you have a hernia in the first place. Do you have weak connective tissue? That and if you are overweight chances of having another hernia are quite high.

You should really not do any heavy lifting until six weeks after your surgery, and should only do light exercises beginning three or four weeks after surgery, with the proper stuff again only after six weeks, belt or no belt.
I would not recommend wearing a hernia belt anyway, you want the muscles to strengthen and the belt may just prevent that ... more
In the case of both my open hernia surgeries I was not meant to do any exercise for 6 weeks after the op, that includes sex.
Even though that was about 8 years ago I would still think this would apply with these kind of surgeries. Did the doctors not inform you of that?
