Mental health reps are notorious for merely labeling your illness then immediately prescribing pills to make the symptoms you've complained about go away. However, they don't always *educate* you about what is going on. I assume that's what happened in your case, or you wouldn't be asking us.

I sometimes wonder if those who need drugs and alcohol to cope aren't suffering from some sort of mental illness to begin with. If they were mentally strong, why would they need to rely on the drugs and alcohol in order to deal with things?

What I consider my own inner thoughts are the words I project on my own, whether they are spoken mentally or verbally. It's like I'm talking to myself in my head, mulling things over, etc. I can tell the difference between the words I am actually speaking inside my head and the words sounding as if they are coming from elsewhere... more
