Just one quick point that i found while researching this subject. I read somewhere that you shouldn't call the stuff 'junk' or other derogatory terms. When you are trying to broach the subject, you are supposed to use the terms that they use to describe their junk.

From what I can find online, it seems like hoarders often suffer from mental health issues like depression and/or OCD. They are also resistant to efforts by friends and family to seek treatment. Retro is the way to go. I knew 12 girls named Susan when I was younger. I bet if you named your kid Susan she would be the only one in her class.
You don't sound like you really have a hoarding problem, at least not yet.
The hoarders that Stan describes are the people that become a problem for the rest of us, requiring the intervention of rescue agencies and law enforcement. The hoarders themselves may have been in denial about it being a problem right up until that knock on the door.
